Gotama Buddha Vihara, founded on January 2nd 2020 as a Buddhist center to teach Buddhist philosophy and meditation, is mainly supported by Vietnamese and Sri Lankan Buddhist community. The center is open to all local Americans, in particular Asian-Americans, and conducts all programs in English.
The president and spiritual advisor is Most Ven. Melpitiye Wimalakitti, who has been practicing for 45 years as a Buddhist monk. He is originally from Asgiriya Maha Vihara, Kandy, Sri Lanka, and he obtained a B.A From the University of Peradeniya, Sri laknka and a PHD in Buddhism from university of Delhi in India. He has taught Buddhism in several countries including Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and South Korea.
